TOP pop acts S Club and Daniel Bedingfield have landed a Huddersfield pub director in court.

High Court action took place against the former Lily's Cafe Bar in Northumberland Street, after an undercover inspector visited last July.

The inspector heard S Club 7, Daniel Bedingfield and Misteeq belting out from the venue, although it had no licence to play music.

Top judge Mr Justice Rimer banned proprietors Lily Leisure Ltd and company director Charles Watson from playing music at the venue without a valid licence.

The judge also ordered them to pay costs of £1,450.

He said the company and Mr Watson, who was absent from the hearing, must not play music at any other premises until the music licences were brought up to date.

Yesterday's pay-up and shut-up order was imposed after the judge heard the bar did not possess the correct Phonographic Performance Licence.

Mr Watson has since opened up a new pub, Chads, in Brook Street, off John William Street, Huddersfield.

He said a mistake had been made over the licence for Lily's.

He said: "It's nothing to do with me."

Failure to obey a banning order can result in fines of £10,000 and two years in prison. Lily's Cafe bar has closed and re-opened under a new name.
