A POPULAR Huddersfield pub just lost out after being in the running for two national awards.

The Bay Horse at Lindley was shortlisted for the Best Music Pub and the Best Marketed Pub classes in the Publican magazine awards.

The pub, next to the Bay Horse roundabout, is well-known for its specialist themed music nights.

It has won awards for them in the past.

The pub was down to the last five in both sections of the awards.

Landlord Steve Pyke and wife Clare were at the awards ceremony at the Grosvenor Hotel in London.

The winner in the Best Music Pub class was Riffs Bar in Swindon, Wiltshire.

The Blues Bar in Harrogate was highly commended.

The Best Marketed Pub winner was the Norway Inn at Truro in Cornwall.

The Punch Tavern in Fleet Street, London, was highly commended.

The Best Music Pub class was sponsored by the Performing Right Society.

Society spokesman Keith Gilbert said: "The Bay Horse team clearly understands that music is good for business and has used it to great effect. They did very well to make the shortlist."
