A HUDDERSFIELD landlady has swapped whisky and water for the worldwide web in an electronic effort to sell her pub.

Amanda Brown, 40, is the co-owner of The Waterloo pub on Wakefield Road and has put the boozer up for auction - on internet auction site eBay!

The unusual sales technique came after she and husband George found out valuers' fees for the local.

Amanda, of Lascelles Hall, said: "We bought the pub a year ago. Before that we were regulars and had some great nights in there.

"The business is really busy, but we have got too many other interests to divert enough time to it.

"We wanted to give it back to a couple who would be able to take great care of it.

"We looked at fees and they were coming to around £7,000. "Then we looked at eBay and it was around £100."

The couple have started the bidding for the pub, which has been refurbished, at £25,000 with a reserve of £50,000.

Mrs Brown admitted it wasn't the most conventional way of selling a pub.

She added: "We have never seen anything like this on the site before. I think it could be the first time a pub has been sold on eBay.

"We think the business should go for about £75,000.

"We have had lots of interest because it's a great business and it's a unique way of selling a pub."
