A PUBLIC consultation will start next week into plans to close Fartown High School.

The closure, along with a proposal to build a new school in the grounds of All Saint’s Catholic College, Bradley Bar, is up for discussion.

The Examiner revealed last month that Kirklees Council was looking to close Fartown High School as part a £20m plan under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

It would see a new school built for 1,200 pupils. It would be run by a private bidder and could become an academy.

The consultation events are:

Monday April 26: Christchurch Woodhouse, 3-5pm. Tuesday April 27: Fixby J&I School, 3-5pm. Wednesday April 28: Birkby Junior school 2.50pm-5pm.

Thursday April 29: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary, 3-5pm. Thursday April 29: Fartown High school 6-8pm.

Saturday May 1: Birkby/Fartown Library, 1-3pm.

Tuesday May 4: St Patrick’s Catholic Primary, 3.20pm-5pm.

Monday May 10: Bradley CE I&N School 2.45pm-5pm.

Tuesday May 11: All Saints Catholic College 6-8pm.

Friday May 14: Ashbrow I&N School 3-5pm.

Tuesday May 18: Birkby Infants 3-5pm.

Saturday May 22: Chestnut Centre, Deighton 1-3pm.
