A POLICE inspector is to talk about crime at a public meeting.

Insp Dave Barnet, from Huddersfield, will be at the next meeting of Kirklees Council's committee for the Kirkburton area.

He will be joined by Bill Swap, from Kirklees Council's Community Safety Unit, and Paul Smith, of West Yorkshire Joint Services, who will talk about doorstep crime.

The meeting is at 7.30pm on Wednesday, October 6, at Upper Whitley Junior and Infant School, Liley Lane, Grange Moor.

Committee chairman Clr Christine Smith said: "Crime and the fear of crime are real problems in our villages."

She urged people to go to the meeting and submit questions.

Also on the agenda will be advice on how people can keep warm during the winter.

Stephen Brown, of Kirklees Energy Services, will offer help through a scheme which helps people achieve affordable warmth. It offers discounts and cash back.
