WEST Yorkshire’s rail and bus passengers are to have their say on transport plans for the future.

Metro and its West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan partners are inviting the public to comment on five key documents that will shape local transport over the next decade.

The documents – RailPlan 7, the Transport Asset Management Plan, Freight Plan and Network Management Plan, and the proposed Targets & Indicators – follow on from the introduction of the 15-year, Third West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan in April 2011.

They identify major issues with their respective networks, suggest remedies and priorities for spending in the future and include indicators which will measure how well the plans meet their objectives.

In the first year of the new Plan, £45m has been spent on projects including Leeds Inner Ring Road maintenance, the North Wakefield Gateway, Manchester Road bridge replacement in Bradford, Mytholmroyd district centre improvements, Dewsbury Ring Road improvements and the introduction of Traffic Light Priority schemes.

Metro chairman Clr James Lewis said: “This is an opportunity for people in West Yorkshire to make their views known on these important strategy documents and what they mean for our future transport networks.

“Metro and the five West Yorkshire district councils are committed to delivering high-quality transport for all, and that means making sure we get the best out the assets and infrastructure we have at present, as well as planning future schemes for when funding becomes available.’’

The public consultation will begin next month with events in towns across the region.
