CRIME and community safety come under the spotlight at the next meeting of Kirklees Council's Colne Valley Area Committee.

People in the area are being urged to go along to the meeting at Slaithwaite Civic Hall on February 15, starting at 7pm.

Presentations will be given on the work of the Kirklees anti-social behaviour unit, Neighbourhood Watch and a scheme to help people with substance misuse problems.

The neighbourhood policing team will give an update on its work.

Clr Margaret Fearnley, the committee's chairman, said: "This is a priority for the area committee and it is important that the Colne Valley and Golcar residents help us to make our area a safer and happier place to live, work and play.

"I look forward to seeing as many residents as possible at the meeting."
