A PUB landlord is enlisting the help of customers in surveying local wildlife.

Peter Stocks, landlord of the Hare and Hounds, Liley Lane, Grange Moor, has worked with the Wildlife Trust to compile forms for people to fill in while travelling to the pub, sitting outside or looking out of the window.

He said: "We would like to get information on what kind of wildlife is around us so that we can monitor it in the future and look for ways in which we can attract new wildlife to the area.

"The surroundings are a real haven for wildlife and I am sure there will be some surprise findings."

The form, which is available from behind the bar at the inn, has provision for recording birds, butterflies, trees and animals such as squirrels.

Mr Stocks added: "There are some pictures on the form of different types of wildlife but if anyone sees anything they do not recognise it would be great if they recorded the details and then visited www.wildlife trusts.org where they can look up their sighting."

All completed surveys at the inn will be entered for a draw to win the Wildlife Trust's Wildlife Walks book which gives details of great local and national wildlife spotting venues.
