TWO pubs hope to create books of poetry and stories composed by their customers.

The Hare and Hounds, on Liley Lane in Mirfield and the Foxglove, at Penistone Road in Highburton, are both launching a Dark Nights menu of warming winter food.

The menu was devised by the group which owns both pubs, Vintage Inns. To mark the occasion, customers are being asked to write stories or poems about it.

These will then be put into a book.

Peter Stocks, landlord at the Hare and Hounds and Sam Kidd, landlady at the Foxglove, will both pick out one winning story or poem from their pubs. The author will receive a bottle of champagne and a meal for two.

Mr Stocks said: "As the nights draw in, it's nice and cosy by the fire and the perfect place to settle down and write."
