Huddersfield's Halloween lovers will tie the knot this weekend.

But the couple with a spectacular pumpkin proposal a year ago will go down a more traditional route on Saturday.

Shaun Wood and Leanne Corneille, who have been together for more than four years, will wed in a traditional ceremony at Helme Church.

Some 70 guests will be at the ceremony and at the reception afterwards at Outlane Golf Club.

The couple are marrying on the closest weekend to Halloween, after last year’s engagement which hit the headlines.

Shaun left his girlfriend speechless after a Halloween proposal – in pumpkins.

The 27-year-old electrician popped the question to sweetheart Leanne on her favourite night of the year.

He carved out ‘Will you marry me?’ in 15 pumpkin lanterns which a friend set up in the garden of their Birkby home.

Leanne, now 26, was stunned by the sight that greeted her.

“She just went hysterical,” said Shaun at the time. “She ran round the back garden just screaming. She wasn’t expecting it at all.”

When Leanne had calmed down a little, Shaun went down on one knee, ring in hand, and delivered his proposal in traditional fashion.

Leanne loves Halloween and it had taken a lot of sweet talking from Shaun to persuade her to go out and not wait for trick-or-treaters to knock on the door.

Leanne’s dad, Peter, said: “A year on and we still all laugh at the surprise.

“But they have opted for a traditional ceremony at Helme Church, which is where I was married 30 years ago.

“The only Halloween shock will be for me when it comes to paying for it all.”
