PUPILS were given an insight into science and technology careers when an industry day was held at Royds Hall High School.

More than 170 Year 9 pupils at the Paddock school got the chance to sample careers in the Army's Royal Engineers, banking and engineering when employers across the town met young people.

The armed forces set the teenagers tasks which saw them creating pulley systems and building bridges.

Pupils also took part in a competition by the Halifax and Bank of Scotland group to win a mini-computer.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Holset Engineering, James Robinsons and Huddersfield New College were among the other organisations that took part.
