TWO 10-year-olds are helping to pilot a new scheme to make children safer road users.
Lizzy Healey and Ben Cole have been elected as the first junior road safety officers in Kirklees - and have the certificates to prove it.
The scheme aims to give schools more involvement in promoting road safety messages from within school.
Ben and Lizzy will be responsible for looking after a road safety notice board in school, organising assemblies with a road safety theme, distributing road safety publicity material to other pupils, organising competitions and keeping in regular contact with Kirklees Council road safety staff.
Safety co-ordinator and teacher Liz Ainsworth said:
"The scheme will ensure a constant road safety input into school and it should be fun for the two children involved as well as giving them responsibility and building their confidence."
"We think our new jobs will be good for the people in our school as we will be helping to make them safer on the roads," said Ben.
