CHEERY artwork from three Huddersfield schoolchildren features in a special calendar.

Paintings of yellow buses have been drawn by Bethany Doyle, Ryan Gibson and Michael Wilton.

And their work is to be included in the calendar which is to be sent out to schools, children's homes and hospitals across West Yorkshire.

"All the pupils have clearly put a lot of time and effort into producing some wonderful pictures for our calendar and I am delighted to see how much affection our young passengers have for the bus," said Metro chairman Clr Karam Hussain.

Pupils who travel on Metro's My Bus yellow buses were invited to take part in the competition and produce a picture of a yellow bus taking them on their dream field trip.

Bethany, 11, who attends Kirkheaton Primary School, has been chosen for April, schoolmate Michael Wilton, eight, for June, and Ryan Gibson, 10, from Dalton Primary School, for May.

Metro's My Bus yellow buses is helping to reduce school gate congestion, accidents and pollution.

More than 70% of My Bus pupils previously travelled to school by car.

Metro says this means the service is removing almost 5,000 miles of car travel from West Yorkshire's road network and saving each family an average of 65 minutes' driving time.
