SCHOOL children have recorded a CD which promotes peace between people of different cultures.

Pupils at Beech Early Years Infant and Junior School, Golcar, have recorded a song entitled Love Is The Message.

The song, which is unique to the school, was written a year ago when a musician visited to hold a workshop with pupils.

However, the process of committing the song to CD did not start until July this year.

Jay Bell, a worker with Communities United Project, heard the song performed during an assembly at the school.

CUP is a Huddersfield charity which runs activity programmes for young people.

Mr Bell, who specifically deals with arts projects, said: "At the time, there had just been bombings in London and I thought the song's message was a good sentiment, especially coming from the mouths of young people.

"So I asked the headteacher if we could record it."

Twenty-five of the best singers in school were chosen by teachers and taken by CUP to Beaumont Street Studios in Huddersfield to record the song.

Copies of the CD were presented to the children at school earlier this week.

A `making of' DVD showing the pupils recording the song was screened at the presentation.

Each child who took part will receive a certificate.

Mr Bell said: "The aim of the project was to give them a chance to express their creativity and the CD gives them something to show for what they have done."
