PAINTINGS by youngsters at Wooldale Junior School have been chosen for a charity calendar.

Eight-year-old Jessica Swiffen's picture of people enjoying a tea party will appear on the cover of the calendar for Martin House children's hospice at Boston Spa, near Wetherby.

Artwork by Joshua Baldwin, eight, Charlotte Parr, seven, and eight-year- old Nicholas Birks also appear in the calendar.

The pupils all win prizes of artists' materials and £750 for their school.

The painting competition was organised by Leeds law firm Walker Morris and was open to all children aged five to 11 at schools across Yorkshire.

The prizes were presented by Holmfirth artist Ashley Jackson, who helped judge the competition with David Smedley, head of employment law at Walker Morris.

Ashley will also spend time working with children at each of the winning schools during 2005.

It is the 10th calendar to be produced for Martin House. So far, the calendars have raised more than £8,000 for the hospice.
