Almost a quarter of four and five year olds living in Kirklees are overweight.

Some 23.9% of children in that age group were found to be carrying excess weight during 2014 and 2015.

The figures have been revealed as part of a survey of local authority areas across the country.

They show Kirklees is among the third most unhealthy in England.

Overall, Kirklees ranked 51 out of 150 authorities, while Calderdale was in 88th place.

Trinity Mirror’s data unit analysed six health indicators to come up with the comprehensive ranking system.

Figures were gathered on smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, obesity and levels of exercise.

Just less than half of Kirklees residents were shown to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables per day.

Nationally, Liverpool was the uhealthiest place in England with just 36.5% of people getting their five a day. The nationa average is 52.3%.

The healthiest place is Richmond upon Thames in south west London.

Blackpool emerged as the second most unhealthy place in the country overall, followed by Nottingham in third and Salford in fourth.

At the other end of the scale, Wokingham in Berkshire was the second healthiest and Kingston upon Thames was third.

All the figures used in this analysis were taken from reputable health sources such as the Health and Social Information Centre and Public Health England.

Calderdale
