A woman who fell from a Huddersfield town centre car park yesterday evening has tragically died.

Police confirmed the 24-year-old woman lost her fight for life in hospital early today.

She plunged more than 50 feet from the top floor of the Queensgate multi-storey car park into Alfred Street late yesterday afternoon.

She suffered serious multiple injuries and despite the best efforts of Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedics, a doctor and medics at Leeds General Infirmary, she succumbed to her injuries.

Police sealed off Alfred Street late yesterday afternoon as officers and paramedics attended.

At one point, there were around a dozen emergency services vehicles surrounding the Kirklees Council-owned car park, which holds hundreds of vehicles.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Kirklees CID, said: “Police were called at 5.38pm to Alfred Street, Huddersfield, following a report that a woman had fallen from the roof of the multi-storey car park.

“The woman, aged 24 from Huddersfield, was taken by ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary where she died as a result of her injuries at 5.30am this morning.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The incident saw Alfred Street sealed off for several hours, with traffic including buses diverted through the town centre.

The woman is believed to have driven her car to the top floor of the car park, which sits alongside the Queensgate Market Hall.
