FOUR Colne Valley parliamentary candidates were grilled Question Time- style at St John’s Church, Golcar.

The Right Reverend Tony Robinson, Bishop of Pontefract, chaired the debate

Four candidates attended – Debbie Abrahams for Labour, Chas Ball for the Greens, Jason McCartney for the Conservatives and Nicola Turner for the Liberal Democrats.

They opened with five-minute overviews of their policies and then faced seven questions from the 50 submitted to the Bishop.

There were questions on the British economy, education, the NHS, social care for the elderly and Afghanistan.

The final question was: given the low esteem of MPs, why did they wish to take on this job for the Colne Valley constituency?
