CONSUMER whizzkids are taking part in district heats of a regional competition over the next few weeks.

They will be amazing judges with their knowledge on consumer rights, travel, food and finance in the events.

Castle Hall Foundation College, Mirfield is hosting the Kirklees heat on Monday.

More than 40 schools and 225 students aged 14 to 17 are taking part in the West Yorkshire Young Consumer of the Year competition.

Its aim is to encourage young people to become informed and confident consumers, ensuring they are aware of their rights.

Martin Wood, chief officer for West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service said: "It never ceases to amaze me the amount of knowledge that the students have. I think this year's competition will prove to be the best yet!"

The regional finals will be held at Eureka! in Halifax and the national final in Brighton later this year.
