PLACES are running out fast for Cancer Research UK's Race for Life in Huddersfield.
Women wanting to enter the 5km race - which will be held on June 18 and 19 at Greenhead Park - need to register quickly as places are running out fast.
There are no places left for June 19 and just a few remain for June 18.
In total 4,400 Huddersfield women have entered the race, for which the Huddersfield Examiner is the official media sponsor.
The Huddersfield event is one of 162 Race for Life events taking place around the county in May and June to raise cash for the cancer charity.
The races are designed to be walked or run by entrants of all ages and levels of fitness.
However, many women are boosting their fitness by attending training sessions organised by Kirklees Culture and Leisure Services.
The training sessions take place in Greenhead Park every Thursday from 5.45pm.
Scott Renken, race organiser, urged women to consider taking part in a Race for Life in nearby towns if they places run out in Huddersfield.
He said: "We are delighted by the enthusiasm for Race for Life in Huddersfield and hope that each of the women taking part will be doing their best to help us reach our fundraising target.
"While unfortunately strict limits do mean that we are not able to exceed race capacity, with so many events throughout the summer we hope there won't be many women wanting to take part who are unable to."
Mr Renken added that women who have already entered should be starting to gather sponsorship.
He said: "With a target of £205,000 from this event to contribute to a UK total of £23 million, there's no time to lose.
"The money raised provides much needed funds for Cancer Research UK's work to cure cancer faster."
The charity currently funds more than 3,000 cancer research scientists, doctors and nurses based throughout the UK.
There are also opportunities for non-runners to help with the Race for Life.
Mr Renken said: "Race for Life relies heavily on the support of volunteers on the day.
"With Huddersfield hosting two days of events, even more help then ever is needed.
"If you would like to be part of this terrific event we would love to hear from you."
