JUST days after completing a half marathon, a Huddersfield woman is back in training – for two marathons.

And she plans to help disabled youngsters.

Rachel Brockie, 34, from Lindley, is training to complete the Batah Marathon next month and the London Marathon on Sunday, April 26, for Get Kids Going!

She completed the 13.1-mile Liversedge half marathon last Sunday, and now plans to run the full marathon.

She said: “I have, for a long time, wanted to try a marathon but thought it’d be out of my league. Over the last few years I thought maybe I could do it.”

Rachel chose Get Kids Going! for her sponsorship. She said: “I was lucky to be offered a place running for them.

“I really wanted to run to help disabled children and young people, especially those kids who can’t even walk never mind run!”

Get Kids Going! is a charity that provides sports and lightweight wheelchairs for disabled and young people to use at home, school and college. The equipment helps the youngsters be independent and participate in sport.

Rachel is a cognitive behavioural therapist for SouthYorkshire Mental Health Trust in Lindley. She started jogging in 1995 to keep fit. She ran her first half marathon, the Great North Run, in 2001 and again in 2002 and 2003.

She has also run the Bristol Half Marathon three times and the Bath Half Marathon in 2008. She is running the Bath Marathon this March in preparation for the big race.

With the help of her friend and hairdresser John Hague, a ‘Cut- athon’ 24-hour cutting session will be held on March 7, at Hague Hair Design in Cowlersley. All proceeds from the cut and blows on the day will go to ‘Get Kids Going.’

John Hague said: “She is a nice lass and is always trying to help people.I’m really pleased that she is running the marathon, she is quite a gritty little character.”
