A GANG of yobs attacked and racially abused a man of 64.
Ajit Singh Hayre, who is recovering from pneumonia, was elbowed in the face by one of the gang as he walked through the centre of Golcar, where he lives.
Now his family and police have united in a plea for the culprits to be caught.
Mr Hayre, who has lived in Golcar since the age of 15, was left nursing a bruised face and was badly shaken.
The assault happened very close to the spot where a gang ambushed and killed taxi driver Mohammad Parvaiz just two years ago.
Mr Hayre’s daughter, Kulvinder, 33, said: “He is very upset. We have lived in Golcar for years and got on well with everyone.
“He has been ill for weeks and the doctor advised him to get fresh air and exercise. He had gone out for a walk.”
The gang of about five or six teenagers struck at 7.20pm on Wednesday, near the playing fields close to Manor Road.
Mr Hayre was subjected to racist abuse and then elbowed in the face by one of the gang, who then ran off.
Police are hunting a white youth, aged about 18 and 6ft tall, with light-coloured hair.
Anyone who can help should contact police on 0845 6060606.
