PEOPLE living in Elland and Brighouse have been asked for their views on a radical shake-up of Calderdale Council.

The Government is forcing the council to choose between one of two new systems of governance.

Calderdale is currently run by a seven-strong Cabinet which can be replaced if it loses the confidence of councillors.

But the council must replace this system either with a mayor elected by the people or a council leader voted in by councillors for four years.

Councillors met on October 1 and decided the council leader model was the better option.

And now Calderdale residents are being consulted on the plans.

Anyone interested in having their say can write to Community Services, Freepost HD82, Northgate House, Halifax HX1 1BR or visit www.calderdale. gov.uk

Responses must be submitted by November 26.

Councillors will make a final decision in December and the new system will be introduced next year.
