Proud veteran Richard Harrison remembered his old comrades as he joined his daughter selling poppies in Holmfirth.

Mr Harrison, 90, stood for two hours outside the town’s Co-op store collecting money for the Poppy Appeal.

Mr Harrison, whose father Ernest was at the Battle of the Somme, served as an air gunner on Liberator aircraft with 70 Squadron during the Second World War.

Father-of-three Mr Harrison joined daughter Lindsey Devons, 58, of Crow Edge, who collects every year outside the Co-op.

Mr Harrison, who has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, travelled from his home in York to help.

Lindsey said: “My father will be 91 in February but he is an amazing man and we are all so proud of him.

“He still lives on his own and still drives. He is incredible and we just wanted some recognition for him.”
