RAM raiders escaped with a cash machine after smashing their way into a Paddock supermarket.

The thieves drove one car into the Premier Express supermarket on Church Street at 3.40am today.

The impact damaged the shutters on the main door.

The intruders dragged the free-standing machine into the road and loaded it into a getaway car before speeding off with their haul.

One of the cars is a black Audi estate and the other is a Daihatsu Sportrak 4X4.

In a separate burglary, thieves raided Holme Valley Sports on Huddersfield Road in Holmfirth just 10 minutes earlier.

They smashed the upper panel on the front door.

One intruder clambered in and passed outdoor coats to an accomplice who loaded them into a car driven by a third man.

They then escaped in the black hatchback towards Holmfirth.

One of the raiders wore a grey hooded top.

The two raids are not being linked by police.

Witnesses to either of them or anyone with information should contact Huddersfield CID on 01484 436582.
