A MAN was attacked when he confronted two intruders in his home.

The 60-year-old was in his loft when he heard noises downstairs at his home in Tanfield Road, Birkby, at 2.45pm on Saturday.

He went down to investigate and bumped into one of the burglars on the landing.

He ushered the man downstairs, then came across a second raider.

The victim was punched in his face and body.

But he managed to fend the intruders off and shout for help from neighbours.

He was left with a bruised face, a bloodied nose and scratches on his arms.

Both attackers were white and spoke with slight Irish accents.

One was 30 to 35, 5ft 9in tall and stocky, with short, ginger hair.

His accomplice was about 25 and slim, with slightly curly mousy hair.

A white Ford Transit van was seen nearby and may be linked to the crime.
