SIX houses across Kirklees were raided by police in a crackdown on burglars.

Police searched houses in Crosland Moor, Lindley, Huddersfield town centre and Dewsbury yesterday under Operation Titan.

A 33-year-old Crosland Moor man and two Dewsbury men, one aged 33 and one 21, were arrested on suspicion of theft, drugs and firearms offences.

A shotgun and ammunition were seized in Dewsbury.

Insp Dave Stainthorpe said: “We have targeted people suspected of handling stolen property, the drug dealers who trade in stolen property, the second-hand shops who are willing to buy stolen property without making the necessary checks, pubs used for dealing in stolen property, internet sales, public markets, car boot sales and any unscrupulous cash-for-gold traders.”

As part of efforts to tackle burglaries, traders are being given lists of items taken in burglaries within Kirklees and asked to contact police if they come across suspicious goods.

Insp Stainthorpe added: “Likewise, the public are warned not to buy property from people who are not known to them, particularly when offered at seemingly bargain prices.

“The likelihood is that such opportunities are not too good to miss, but are opportunities to inform the police of criminals looking to make a quick and easy profit from the loss and anguish inflicted on victims of crime.”
