CONCESSIONARY train fares in West Yorkshire are to rise.

The current 35p fare is to go up by 15p from May 23. The move is part of a series of cost-cutting measures which may also include job losses later this year.

Metro’s Integrated Transport Authority’s Executive Committee yesterday agreed the new rate of 50p for concessionary off-peak train travel in West Yorkshire.

Members said the 15p rise is the first since 2005.

Concessionary Cardholders, including the elderly, can take advantage of the 50p fare after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays.

The off-peak concessionary fare rise is part of cost-saving measures being introduced by Metro which is facing the same difficult economic circumstances as everyone else.
