ONE train had to stop and others were forced to slow down after a trackside hut caught fire in Ravensthorpe.

The abandoned workman's hut was discovered on fire next to the Huddersfield to Leeds railway line close to Ravensthorpe station at 5.50am yesterday.

Dewsbury fire station crew manager Chris Hampshire said: "The hut was built from old railway sleepers so was a substantial building.

"It was destroyed by the fire."

One train had to stop while firefighters tackled the blaze.

Once they had it under control trains were allowed to pass slowly.
