AN MP has welcomed plans for improved rail services in West Yorkshire.
Chris McCafferty, MP for the Calder Valley, expressed her delight at plans by Network Rail and The Northern Way government initiative to invest £530m to transform rail travel in the north.
The proposals include a new direct link from Calder Valley stations to Manchester Airport as part of an increase in trans-Pennine services.
Ms McCafferty said: “I was delighted to be informed by Lord Andrew Adonis, the Secretary of State for Transport, that the Government was supporting the plans outlined by Network Rail.
“I have been arguing for many years for better links on the Caldervale line to regional hubs and also for increased capacity to reduce overcrowding.
“I am pleased that Network Rail and The Northern Way have recognised these issues and brought forward firm proposals which will benefit local rail users.”
