A RAILWAY model exhibition has raised £1,600 for a church choir.

Saturday’s event at St Mary’s Parish Church in Mirfield was organised by choir member Peter Dransfield, who is also a modelling enthusiast.

The money will go to the church’s Choir Guild to buy music and new robes.

Mr Dransfield, 72, has been a chorister since he was eight and has received an MBE for his services to the community in Mirfield.

“The place was packed,’’ he said. “The railway modellers came from all across the country. We had one railway dealer who had travelled from Winchester and a vicar from Leicester.’’
