A WOMAN who says she was raped in Huddersfield has told a jury how she was hassled and intimidated by her alleged attacker.

The 21-year-old Bradford woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was cross-examined by John Hanrahan's barrister via a special television link yesterday.

She told Bradford Crown Court she did not want to go with Hanrahan, 20, to his flat in Holme Park Court, Berry Brow.

The woman, who previously attended a special needs school, told barrister Sophie Drake: "He was saying things to get me to go, but I didn't want to go."

The woman said she was getting hassled by Hanrahan. She described how he continued to follow her as she walked to Huddersfield bus station to get her bus home.

She said she was trying to get away from Hanrahan because she had had enough of him.

When they reached the bus station she said Hanrahan continued to intimidate her and threatened to cover her mouth if she shouted out.

The woman said she tried to get out her mobile phone to ring for help, but couldn't find it.

Miss Drake asked the woman why she had eventually got on the same bus as Hanrahan, even though it was not going to Bradford and why she had not alerted the driver.

The woman agreed that she was not sitting with Hanrahan on the bus, but had then got off at the same stop as him.

She said he grabbed her arm and pulled her to the nearby block of flats, where he lived.

The prosecution has alleged that Hanrahan raped the woman after taking her into his 10th-floor flat.

He was arrested by police at the flat later that evening, but said that sex had been with the woman's consent.

Hanrahan has pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and false imprisonment.

His trial continues.
