A WOMAN is to face court accused of making a false allegation of rape.

The 24-year-old from Linthwaite was yesterday interviewed by police in Huddersfield.

Det Insp Sam Cooke, of Huddersfield CID, said: "She has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

"She has been bailed to appear before Huddersfield magistrates on October 20."

The charge follows allegations that the woman was raped in woodland between Slant Gate and Hazel Grove, Linthwaite, on September 1.

The accusation sparked a huge police investigation, involving a large number of officers.

Detectives carried out extensive house to house inquiries in the hours after the alleged incident.

Police also staged a big operation a week later, stopping many people on their way home and drivers passing through the area.
