A RAPIST is facing prison after a jury found him guilty of a brutal attack on a woman.

Simon Nash, 38, was yesterday found guilty on three counts of rape and a charge of false imprisonment.

Bradford Crown Court heard allegations that Nash had used the date-rape drug GHB to sedate the woman, but the jury cleared him of a charge of administering a substance with intent.

The trial at Bradford Crown Court was told that the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was at the house Nash was renting at Robin Hood Hill, Berry Brow, Huddersfield, when she passed out.

Prosecutor Andrew Kershaw told the jury that when she finally came round she was lying on the bed and Nash was on top of her.

She told him to get off but Nash told her to look at his fist before repeatedly punching her around the head and spitting at her.

Fearing for her life, she pleaded with Nash and told him that she would do what he wanted but Nash continued to punch and spit at her.

The woman managed to get off the bed, but Nash followed and throttled her so hard that she temporarily passed out.

She managed to briefly escape and tried to jump out of the first floor window, but Nash grabbed her by her hair and flung her across the room, ripping out clumps of hair.

The victim fled downstairs and opened the front door at which point he slammed it shut on her arm and dragged her back into the house.

Eventually the woman escaped through a window.

She ran half-naked down the road screaming that she had been raped and was helped by a neighbour who called the police.

Nash, of Lydgate Drive, New Mill, Huddersfield, was arrested later that June day but told the police that the woman had voluntarily taken the GHB because it gave her a buzz.

Traces of the drug were found in both the complainant's and the defendant's systems.

Nash also admitted that they had had sex but claimed she had consented throughout.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC adjourned sentencing for reports to look into how much of a danger Nash is the public.

Judge Durham Hall remanded Nash into custody and will pass sentence on November 24 at York Crown Court.
