A MAN who raped and molested a young girl will be sentenced in the New Year.

Simon Boulton, 22, of Manor Street, Newsome, appeared before a judge at Bradford Crown Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to one count of rape and four counts of indecent assault.

He also pleaded not guilty to another six counts of rape and prosecutor Gavin Howie told that court that the Crown would not seek a trial on the remaining counts to spare the girl the ordeal of having to come to court and give evidence.

He said that the prosecution would ask that they lay on the file when Boulton is sentenced.

Judge Robert Bartfield adjourned the sentence for the preparation of psychiatric and presentence reports and told Boulton: "The nature of the sentence you are bound to face you understand already."

No application for bail was made and the defendant was remanded into custody and will be brought back to court to face sentence in February.

The young complainant cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The attacks took place between 1996 and 1998.
