A PLANNING application for a new fire station in Rastrick has been delayed.

Councillors were set to decide yesterday if the proposal for land south of Clough Lane was suitable for approval.

However, it was deferred for administrative reasons and will be put before the councillors at a later date.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service wants permission for a fire station in Rastrick to replace the current Brighouse and Elland stations, which are being closed as part of wider cost cutting.

The brigade must make savings of £7.8m in 2013/14, with the loss of 102 full-time firefighter jobs and 10 stations closed and merged into five new stations.

Thirty-four people opposed the application with concerns ranging from traffic worries to fears of a ‘hidden agenda’ for a new motorway junction.
