PUPILS at Rastrick High School have planned and thrown a party for the town’s pensioners.

The kind-hearted youngsters continued the school’s annual tradition and welcomed more than 70 pensioners to a Christmas celebration.

The Christmas party was organised by a group of Year 10 and Year 13 students who coordinate the activities as part of their coursework towards Certificate of Personal Effectiveness Level 2 and Year 13 Business Studies courses. Guests were welcomed with a glass of sherry or fruit juice before the traditional Christmas quiz began.

School spokeswoman Louise Benn said: “It wouldn’t be a party without a bit of carol singing and our guests joined some of our choir singers and musicians in a few verses of cheer. Everyone was in fine voice and the cheery tunes prepared us for the tasty festive buffet, prepared by our very own, fantastic catering team, which went down a treat. ”Our special guests each received a party bag and gift to take home and overall everyone involved had a super afternoon. ”It was such a nice sight to see people of each side of a generational divide come together and enjoy themselves.”
