Rastrick Sixth Form student Courtney Green is going to university to study a degree many may never knew existed.

For she is off to Sheffield University to do Korean Studies.

An avid reader, Courtney picked up a language book and was captivated so went on to read more on the culture. With an A in Sociology, and Bs in Psychology and English Language, Courtney is aiming to become a teacher or translator and will spend a year in Korea as part of her course where she hopes to write a blog on her experiences.

With a keen interest to do research, Rastrick student Gianni Vienza is heading to the University of Manchester to study Biomedical Science.

With As in Biology and Maths and a B in Chemistry, Gianni said, “Science really interests me and this course is research based where I will study and investigate medicines.”

On a more vocational studies route, Ramandeep Kaur excelled, achieving Distinction* in all four subjects: Health & Social Care, Applied Science, ICT and Business.

She said, “I’m really pleased with my results and feel so happy. I really want to work with children so am going to take Childcare Studies at the University of Huddersfield. I would like to work in a nursery setting and will go on placement as part of my course.”

Emma Washington is studying her course in Fashion Design & Textiles at the University of Huddersfield. Having achieved Bs in Textiles and Photography plus a Distinction* in Business Studies, Emma has spent time on placement this last year in Manchester, working alongside Fashion Designer Nadine Merabi.
