A POPULAR gardens show is moving to a new venue.

Due to the works being carried out in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, the 69th Huddersfield Flower, Vegetable and Handicraft Show is being held at Ravensknowle Park, Dalton, this year.

The show will be open to the public on Saturday, August 14, 1pm to 4.30pm, and on Sunday, August 15, from 11am to 4.30pm. The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Andrew Palfreeman, will present the trophies to the winners at 3.30pm on the Sunday.

The show, entry to which is 50p for over 16s, includes the Huddersfield and District Fuchsia and Geranium Society Open Show, the Yorkshire Gladiolus Society Early Show and the Huddersfield Allotments and Gardens Federation Show. There are also open classes for vegetables, flowers, domestic baking, preserves, beer and wine, floral art and a handicrafts section which includes classes for senior citizens, people with a physical disability and people who are blind or visually impaired.

There is also a children’s section, titled ‘The Carrot Factor’, which gives youngsters up to 13 years the chance to be creative.

They can display fresh flowers in a pot, bake buns, paint a picture of their local park, craft a bird from a vegetable or make a miniature garden.
