A POSTMORTEM on a body found in Dewsbury has failed to pinpoint the cause of death.

But police have scaled back their investigation into the man’s death after ruling it was not suspicious.

The discovery of the man in the back yard of a house on Huddersfield Road in Ravensthorpe sparked a major operation on Bank Holiday Monday.

Forensics and scene of crime officers were drafted in to seal off the area and carry out a search for clues.

A section of Huddersfield Road was taped off as enquiries were carried out.

Dozens of people gathered on the street to watch police at work late into the night.

A police cordon remained in place yesterday.

But West Yorkshire Police said they were not treating the death as a criminal matter.

A spokesman said: “A postmortem has been carried out, but the cause of death is still not known.

“However, it is not believed to have been suspicious and the investigation has been scaled down.”

The dead man was not due to be formally identified until today.
