LITTLE Charlie Townend opened a new library and children’s centre.

The four-year-old cut the ribbon at Rawthorpe and Dalton Library, Information and Children’s Centre, on Ridgeway.

The Kirkheaton boy was joined for the ceremony by Kirklees Mayor Clr Karam Hussain.

Charlie opened the centre after winning a plate-decorating competition.

HIs grandmother Joan said: “There were 500 entries from five schools and Charlie’s was judged the best.

“I thought it was absolutely fantastic that he won. Cutting the ribbon is something Charlie will remember forever.”

Children also enjoyed badge-making, face-painting and balloon modelling, as well as live music and dance from local group the Mikwano Drummers at the opening ceremony last month.
