A MAGNIFYING glass sparked a blaze scare at a house in Waterloo.
The sun's rays coming through a window at the home on Waterloo Road were magnified on to a cardboard box which caught fire just after 6pm yesterday.
The magnifying glass belongs to a boy, whose mother smelled smoke and managed to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
Leading firefighter Jimmy Johnstone said: "It was lucky she smelled the smoke otherwise the fire could have taken hold."
