THIS year's Great Yorkshire Show was an all-time record-breaker.

The organisers, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, has announced the attendance figure of 134,810 was higher than any in the event's 167-year history.

The previous best was 131,075 in 1979.

The show, which ended on Thursday, opened on Tuesday in glorious weather which continued over the three days.

Show director Christopher Hall stepped down from office at the closing ceremony. He has been at the helm of the show for seven years.

He said: "We have had a marvellous show.

"The weather has been superb, there have been record-breaking entries in the livestock classes, we have had more trade stands than ever - and now we have the news of the attendance figures.

"The Great Yorkshire Show is the finest show in the country and I am sure it will continue to go from strength to strength," added Mr Hall.
