A HOLME Valley woman with learning difficulties has again raised money for her favourite charity.

Rebecca Haigh, 34, of Scholes, completed a 100-length sponsored swim for Children In Need, raising nearly £400.

It is the 12th year in succession that she has done the swim for the charity.

But this year was particularly special for both her and her mother, Sylvia.

Mrs Haigh said: "I am especially proud of Rebecca this year as it has been a very difficult year for us both, after sadly losing her father Steven in June.

"I think this actually gave Rebecca more determination to do the best she can. Her dad would be extremely proud of her. "

At the age of four Rebecca contracted the illness encephalitis, a condition similar to meningitis.

Although she managed to pull through Rebecca then had the task of having to learn everything from scratch.

Mrs Haigh added: "Children In Need is a charity particularly close to Rebecca.

"She feels she can relate to many of the children and understand what some of them are going through.

"Her determination to succeed and go out of her way to help other people is fantastic."
