CHILDREN’S champion Jill Hinchliffe has been given an award for her literacy work in school.

The learning mentor and parent coordinator, at Birkby Infant and Nursery School in Huddersfield has been officially recognised as a Reading Champion by the National Literary Trust.

Jill was nominated by Judith Robinson of the Kirklees Library Service for her work in promoting reading to local parents and families.

She has also been instrumental in encouraging parents and their families to visit the Library and Information Centre in Birkby.

Recognised as an advocate for reading and for libraries by the National Literacy Trust, Jill said she was delighted to receive her award which she feels reflects the ethos of her school which aims to develop a thriving reading community.

Jill was nominated for an Examiner Community Award last year in the teacher of the year category.
