THEY plummeted out of a blue Yorkshire sky.

And the Red Devils delighted crowds around Scissett’s Bagden Hall Hotel with their spectacular aerial show.

The Devils – the Parachute Regiment’s freefall team – dropped in at the country house hotel as part of a corporate event.

The four-man team leapt from the aircraft several thousand feet above the hotel off Wakefield Road in near-perfect weather.

The show was not billed as a public event but many had parked up on roads around the hotel to see the famous team in action.

The parachutists had been asked to support Oxfordshire-based call management business Callista UK, who are the Red Devils’ IT sponsor. They were at Bagden Hall to launch new online systems.

Karl Sharman, the hotel general manager, said; “It’s a real honour have such a prestigious troupe landing on our front lawn – which is actually the first tee for our golf course.

“We were really excited as it was such a spectacular display”.

The Devils comprise 25 serving members of the three Parachute Regiment battalions – 1, 2 and 3 Para.

Each must have served at least three years on operational duties in many of the world’s toughest war zones, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

The display troupe was formed in 1963 and gave its first display in May 1964, using an old Rapide aircraft.

Now the Devils do about 100 displays each year and are seen as one of the armed forces’ best publicity machines.

Last night’s display was arranged by one of the team, Lance Cpl Andy Braye.
