REFUGEE workers from Huddersfield are angry after being featured in a British National Party newsletter posted around Dewsbury.

Alan Brooke and his brother Ian, of Kirklees Refugees and Friends Together (KRAFT) have reacted with fury to the disparaging piece about their work as well as the newsletter as a whole.

They fear it could trigger racial violence in the town.

A photograph of Alan appears beneath the article, along with details of where he and Ian live.

Alan slammed the four-page publication. He said: "It's just a catalogue of lies. They are completely hostile to asylum seekers."

He added: "We are concerned about the damage it might do to relations within the Dewsbury area."

He has referred the publication to West Yorkshire Police.

"There already is some tension in Ravensthorpe. There's been street fighting and the BNP are trying to cash in on that. We are just concerned that people are being taken in by this," said Alan.

Phil Edwards, national press officer for the British National Party, said the leaflet was not intended to cause racial tension.

He characterised asylum seekers and refugees as scroungers and criminals.

"They (the Brookes) are not really bothered what anybody else thinks about having third world asylum seekers dumped on their doorstep. They don't have them where they live," he said.
