THE crew of a dustbin wagon turned Good Samaritans at Paddock.

They rushed to help a young boy injured in an accident in Church Street on Thursday.

And their efforts were praised by local residents and shopkeepers.

Shazad Ahmed, who runs a shop, said: "I have never seen anyone put themselves out as much as these guys did.

"They stopped work, stopped the traffic coming both ways and went to help the little boy, who had head injuries.

"Two of them cradled him in their arms while another rang for the ambulance. They stayed with him right until the police and the ambulance arrived.

"It was heartening to see people who care."

The boy was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Steve Noble, of Kirklees Council's environment services, said: "This sort of reaction by our crew does not surprise me.

"They are people who care about the community.

"It is good to hear they were able to help.

"I will make sure the thanks of local people are passed on to them."
