HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman has welcomed new figures showing 2,599 new jobs created in the Yorkshire and The Humber region in the past year.

The figures published by UK Trade and Investment also show the number of inward investment projects in the UK reached a record high last year.

Mr Sheerman said: "We are seeing more jobs and opportunities created in Huddersfield thanks to Labour's handling of the economy. Inward investment can help to revitalise the local economy.

"I am particularly pleased that in areas that have suffered from high unemployment under the Tories, we are seeing substantial numbers of jobs created.

"I'm pleased that these figures back Labour's handling of the economy, but there is still more to do.

"I will continue to work hard to ensure that Huddersfield gets its fair share of investment and new opportunities so we can continue to see improvements in our area.

"We welcome more jobs, but we also need more highly-paid better quality employment."
