AMBULANCE staff across West Yorkshire are pulling out the stops to raise money for the Asian tsunami appeal.

Workers from paramedics to office staff are doing their bit.

A relay run and bike ride linking the region's 21 ambulance stations is being held tomorrow.

Organiser Pete Rhodes, a paramedic, said: "The main idea is to carry a relay baton between the stations in one continuous effort over 24 hours.

"We've broken it down into stages, so that people can do as little as four miles or as many as 30. The whole event covers 236 miles."

Dewsbury ambulance workers, who have been collecting for charity for 25 years, have already pledged £1,000 from their own funds.

AUCTIONS, raffles and some tasty Indian food came together to create a fundraising success.

The fundraising night at the Junction pub in Kirkburton raised an impressive £1,345 for the tsunami disaster appeal.

The money was raised by 55 people who attended a home- cooked Indian meal at the pub.

Chef Sunita Castle and neighbour Gillian Milner cooked for the crowd.

Sunita is from southern India and instigated the fundraising.

Mrs Milner, who helped Sunita with the night's arrangements, said: "It's such a huge effort from such a small number of people."

Money was also raised by an auction of glassware and a raffle.

Frank and Sylvia Lane, the landlord and landlady at the pub, hosted the event.
